PALESTINE, March 25, 2014— In the quest to offer as many programs to students as possible, Trinity Valley Community College of Palestine not only occupies the main campus in Palestine, but has moved some of their programs to space at the Palestine Mall. Until now, TVCC has been renting the space on a short-term lease agreement.
According to TVCC Palestine Provost Jeff Watson, that may soon change as TVCC and Palestine mall explore the possibility of a long-term lease agreement which would make TVCC’s presence at the mall a mainstay for years to come.
“As a college, our goal is to train and educate students,” said Watson. “But we also want to help the economic development of the city, and this is what we think will do that.”
TVCC currently operates under a year-to-year lease contract with the mall. According to Watson, a long-term lease would place more of the maintenance responsibility on TVCC, allowing them to take a more active role in the facility. It would also give TVCC the space it needs to continue to expand its program offerings.
Once TVCC and Palestine Mall come to an agreement on lease terms, the agreement must be approved by the TVCC Board of Trustees.
KYYK’s Gary Richards spoke with Watson about the long-term lease and how it would benefit TVCC and the community. Click below for more.
