TYLER, September 1, 2013-- The Tyler Junior College Academy of Dance and the East Texas Symphony Orchestra are collaborating for the 25th anniversary presentation of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet, “The Nutcracker.”
“‘The Nutcracker’ is such a time-honored tradition for so many East Texans, and it is often children’s first exposure to the power and beauty of classical music and dance,” TJC Academy of Dance Director Justine Pojanowski said. “This is going to be such an exciting year, especially with the superb East Texas Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Richard Lee providing live music.”
Auditions will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, in the TJC dance studio (Room 125) located in the Ornelas Health and Physical Education Center on the college’s main campus.
More than 100 roles are open for ages ranging from 6 through adult.
Audition times are:
10-10:45 a.m.: Ages 6-8
11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.: Ages 9-12
12:30-2 p.m.: Ages 13-18 with pointe experience
2:15-3 p.m.: Ages 13-18 through adult
Performances will be 2:00, and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Cowan Center on the UT Tyler campus.
Tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 4, in the Cowan Center box office.
General admission tickets are $22 in advance and $25 at the door; with children under age 12 for $16 in advance and $20 at the door. Premium seats are $55 for the evening performance and $35 for the matinee.
