Theatre TJC announces 'All-American Season' for 2013-14

TYLER, September 14, 2013— Ranging from a girl named Scout to a boy named George Gibbs to a razor-wielding barber named Sweeney Todd, the characters taking the Theatre TJC stage this season are nothing if not diverse.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the variety of works on tap for the 2013-14 season,” said Dr. David W. Crawford, TJC theater professor and director of the season opener, Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town.”

“As we were building this year’s program, we discovered it could be billed as the All-American Season, with such timeless classics as ‘Our Town’ and ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’ Plus, we’re excited to offer what is possibly the first East Texas production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, ‘Sweeney Todd.’”

TJC will close the season in April 2014 with Jerry Blunt’s comic farce “A Gap in Generations,” which will be performed in commedia dell’arte fashion, complete with stylized costumes and masks.

Crawford said Theatre TJC’s programming choices are based on “what the students need, what is good for the community, and what each director wants to spend six weeks of their lives eating, drinking and breathing.”
