LONGVIEW, September 30, 2013-- The City of Longview, Partners in Prevention, along with Great Longview United Way, East Texas Council of Governments, Region 7 Education Service Center, Workforce Solutions of East Texas and Longview Nonprofit Coalition is sponsoring The Poverty Conference on October 15, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., at Maude Cobb Convention Center, 100 Grand Blvd. Through collaboration and education, this community centered conference seeks to identify, inspire and share practical, person-empowering, poverty-reducing/wealth creating solutions for East Texas.
Keynote speaker, Ruby Payne, Ph.D., will provide information on the Framework for Understanding Poverty, Bridges Out of Poverty, What Every Church Member Should Know about Poverty, and Under-Resource Learners. ACCION Texas will present, stimulating Microfinance and Microenterprise. Participants will also hear from those who have lived in poverty, or are experiencing the day-to-day life of poverty.
Partners in Prevention Manager Holly Fuller states, “Partners in Prevention is pleased to be part of this community collaboration to bring this dynamic conference to East Texas. Partners in Prevention utilizes the Bridges out of Poverty construct in our local initiative. There will be something for everyone at this conference. We encourage the faith community, educators, counselors, business owners, nonprofit organization, and anyone else with an interest in reducing poverty to attend this conference.”
