RUSK, October 4, 2013—Texas State Railroad will feature the Pumpkin Patch Express and the Moonlight Special Dinner Train during the month of October.
The Pumpkin Patch Express trains will run every Saturday and Sunday, at 11:00 a.m., and 2:30 p.m., from the Rusk Depot. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. At the Pumpkin Patch site in Maydelle, they will get off the train and enjoy all sorts of games and activities including: trick or treating at Trick or Treat Street, picking a pumpkin to take home from the pumpkin patch, a hay ride, a live children's entertainer, a food vendor, 2 bounce house and an assortment of games and activities.
The Moonlight Special Dinner Train will run on Friday, October 18, on the evening of a full moon. The steam powered train will depart from the Palestine Depot at 6:30 p.m., after a reception in the portico at 6:00 p.m. Passengers will enjoy a peaceful ride through the East Texas Forest Country to the Mewshaw Siding and back. Contemporary Catering of Palestine will prepare and serve the meal, which will consist of a salad comprised of fresh spinach with mandarin oranges, feta cheese, almonds, red onion and vinaigrette. The main course will be pork medallions with brown gravy. Side dishes include special recipe mashed potatoes and veggie bundles of asparagus, zucchini and carrots. Dessert will be individual mini-cheesecakes with strawberry or raspberry topping. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be served. Guests are welcome to BYOB.
