JACKSONVILLE, July 26, 2013-- Senator Robert Nichols and Representative Travis Clardy in conjunction with the Texas Historical Commission (THC) will recognize Texas Basket Company as the Texas Treasure Business Award winner. The Texas Treasure Business Award program pays tribute to businesses that have provided employment opportunities and support to the state’s economy for 50 years or more. Created in 2005 through legislation authored by Senator Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) and sponsored by Representative Charles “Doc” Anderson (R-Waco), the program recognizes well-established Texas businesses and their exceptional historical contributions to the state’s economic growth and prosperity.
Texas Basket Company award presentation will take place on Thursday, August 8th, 11 a.m. at Texas Basket Company located at 100 Myrtle Drive.
Texas Basket Company makes between 5,000 to 12,000 baskets per day, employing between 80 to 130. They sell to every state in the United States and a small portion overseas. During their first years of business, Texas Basket Company only sold to farmers and now sell to grocery stores, arts & craft stores, roadside farm stands, caterers, mail order catalogs, candy stores, pet stores, florists, crab fishermen at Chesapeake Bay, nurseries, gift stores and more.
Texas Basket Company also has a retail store at their factory location. This started as a result of an article written by Southern Living magazine in the early 1980’s. The retail store continues to bring visitors to Jacksonville.
