PALESTINE, November 14, 2013—The Stock Pot has a new roof, thanks to community members who answered the organization’s plea for help.
“The outpouring of Christian generosity and Christian charity toward this group at the Stock Pot is unbelievable – like nothing I’ve ever seen,” said the Stock Pot’s Reverend Casey Williams. “The sense of community here in Palestine is unbelievably strong. I’m a big fan of Palestine, and I’m a big fan of Anderson County. When I look at the results of our appeal for a roof, I think, ‘You know, I think Palestine is a community that’s the standard by which others should be judged’.”
The organization, which served 18,000 meals in 2012, to those in need, does not receive any city, county or state funds. Although they received a federal stipend at one time, that has ceased. The organization now relies solely on private donations and community help to continue their work.
Anyone wishing to donate food or make a monetary donation may drop items off at the Stock Pot, located 410 Avenue A, in Palestine. The Stock Pot is open Monday – Friday, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are also needed.
