PALESTINE, August 3, 2014— STAR+PLUS is a Texas Medicaid Managed care program for people with disabilities or those who are age 65 or older. Effective September 1, 2014, STAR+PLUS Medicaid Program will be expanded to Anderson and surrounding counties. This means that many people who currently receive Medicaid will be required to enroll in STAR+PLUS to receive health care, long term services, and support through a medical plan that they choose.
Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living (PRCIL) will be hosting a workshop to explain how the United Healthcare Community Plan fits into the STAR+PLUS expansion of Medicaid into Anderson County. Cherish O’Barr with Community Outreach Northeast Texas will be discussing what STAR+PLUS means to consumers, what changes are ahead, and the importance of service coordinators. She will present an in depth review of United Health Care’s value added extra benefits for choosing the United Healthcare Community Plan.
This outreach event is intended to provide the necessary education about the services and benefits available to people who are required to be in the September 1, 2014 STAR+PLUS expansion into Anderson County. Those who are voluntarily enrolling in STAR+PLUS are encouraged to attend this community outreach meeting as well.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 13th, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at PRCIL which is located at 421 Avenue A, in Palestine, Texas. For more information, contact PRCIL at 903-729-7505.
