PALESTINE, May 9, 2014—On May 10, 2014, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Food Drive celebrates its 22nd year of helping to feed the hungry.
On Saturday, the Food Drive will once again spread across America to help provide assistance to Americans who are struggling with hunger. Those who wish to participate are asked to leave non-perishable food items by their mailbox, or on the porch with a note explaining to the Letter Carrier where the donation is located. Donations may also be left in the front lobby of the post office, or at the following locations: Brookshire’s, any of the three local Family Dollar locations, The Magnolia Health Clinic, Inwood Apartments and Oak Hill Apartments.
Non-perishable foods which are appropriate include peanut butter, canned goods, snack foods, cereals, rice, beans, boxed cake mixes, etc.
This Food Drive is the nation’s largest single-day drive. In 2013, 74.4 million pounds of food was collected, which brought the grand total of donations to just under 1.3 billion pound of food collected in the history of the Drive.
