Smith County Jail expansion update 1-4-14

SMITH CO., January 4, 2014— The expansion of the Smith County Jail has been delayed a bit by recent weather, but is back on track, according to Smith County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer John Moore.

The expansion, made possible by a $35,000 bond issue which was approved by voters in 2011, will allow Smith County to house more of their own inmates instead of being forced to pay other counties for the space.

The first phase of the expansion is expected to be completed by the middle of this year.

KYYK’s Gary Richards spoke with Moore about the current status of the expansion. Click below for more.
