ELKHART, August 6, 2014—An architecture firm has been hired, and projects are in the design process for the new construction and expansion at Slocum High School, according to Slocum ISD Superintendent Cliff Lasiter.
The projects are, in part, a result of a $3.3 million voter-approved bond. An additional $2.7 will be paid out from the school’s fund balance in order to complete the projects.
According to Lasiter, the school is in the process of hiring a construction manager at risk, a process which should be completed by mid-September. Groundbreaking is expected to take place in January of 2015.
The projects will include the addition of ten new classrooms, new offices, and a new dining hall. A competition gymnasium, expected to seat 700-800, will also be constructed.
