Athens, August 21, 2017 -- Henderson County Botie Hillhouse led the bulk of his Office on a two-hour long manhunt Friday that ended when a man convicted of murder in Louisiana was apprehended.
Friday before noon, a Deputy responded to a call involving two men south of Athens.
Rodney Baker, 47, originally from Athens, ran from the scene into a wooded area near Loop 7 and Farm to Market 59.
Hillhouse alerted the entire command staff, investigators and deputies on patrol to the situation when the wanted man fled. He also called in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Canine Unit. County Constables, the District Attorney’s Office, the County Attorney’s Office, and the Athens Police Department were involved.
Because this occurred near Bel Air Elementary Sheriff Hillhouse went to the school to notify their staff of the situation.
Just as the lunch hour ended, the suspect was arrested.
He was taken to jail on a Parole Violation from a homicide case in neighboring Louisiana.
“He will have to answer to the judicial system in Louisiana,” Hillhouse said.
Another man, Richard Brown, 64, was also arrested for an outstanding warrant at the scene of the disturbance.
“Henderson County is no safe haven for criminals of any kind,” the Sheriff said. “They can’t hide out here. They can’t run and get away. Our team is committed to keeping the people here safe and making sure these folks are in jail.”
