Seal coat work planned for Whitehouse, Overton areas

TYLER, July 30,. 2013-- Work associated the Texas Department of Transportation’s annual preventative maintenance program known as District-Wide Seal Coat is scheduled to continue this week in the Whitehouse area the move into the Overton area as it moves through all eight counties of the Tyler District, treating nearly 300 miles of roadway before concluding work in August.

Beginning Monday, crews are scheduled to seal SH 110 between FM 346 in Whitehouse and Toll 49 between Whitehouse and Tyler.

Once that work is completed, crews are scheduled to perform the same work on FM 848, again between FM 346 in Whitehouse and SH 64 east of Tyler.

Then as early as Wednesday, crews are scheduled to move into the Overton area, sealing FM 3053 between Overton and the Gregg County Line near FM 1639, then SH 135 through Overton between the Smith County Line on the south end of town and SH 42 in New London.

Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic in two-lane areas. Loose gravel may be present for several days following a seal coat application.

Other area TxDOT work planned this week:

RUSK COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to continue base and pavement repairs on SH 322 between FM 850 and FM 1249. A second crew is scheduled to perform spot resurfacing operations on FM 1249 southeast of Kilgore between FM 2276 and SH 322. Elsewhere, TxDOT maintenance crews are scheduled to perform base and pavement repair work on US 84 east of Mount Enterprise between FM 95 and FM 1971. Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress. Motorists are encouraged to be prepared to reduce speed and merge in and around the work zones.

QUITMAN – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to continue base and pavement repairs in Quitman on SH 37 between the Dairy Queen and the Courthouse, and on SH 154 between the eastern edge of the current construction project and the Ford dealership at the SH 154/SH 37 “Y.” Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible to avoid delays.

SMITH COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to make pavement repairs on SH 155 between IH 20 and FM 16 in Winona. A second crew is scheduled to perform edge repairs in various locations on FM 14 between North Loop 323 in Tyler and Interstate 20. Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic in two-lane areas.

Two construction projects are scheduled to begin next month in Smith County, including:

• SH 64 – Widen to five lanes between Tyler Pounds Regional Airport and SCR 1184. The $2.4 million project let to contract in May and is scheduled to begin August 5. Big Creek Construction, Ltd, of Hewitt, is the contractor.

• Spur 364, FM 2908 – Widen Spur 264 to add turn lanes and resurface between SH 31 and Loop 323 in Tyler, and add shoulders between Greenbriar Road and Loop 323. Add shoulders to FM 2908 between Old Longview Highway and SCR 393. The $2.9 million project let to contract in May and is scheduled to begin August 12. Big Creek Construction, Ltd, of Hewitt, is the contractor.

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to continue base and pavement repairs on US 84 between US 69 in Rusk and the Rusk County Line. A second crew is scheduled to begin edge work on FM 2137 between FM 344 west of Bullard and FM 855 north of Cuney. Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic.

ANDERSON COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to perform edge repairs on FM 2574 between FM 19 in Neches and US 79 near the Cherokee County Line. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic.

VAN ZANDT COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to perform resurfacing operations on FM 1861 between SH 19 in Walton and FM 2339 south of Martins Mill. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic.
