Schedule of events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 15

PALESTINE, JANUARY 10, 2018 --  The Concerned Citizens Action Group of Anderson County, Inc., is hosting is annual MLK Day event, starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 15. The event will consist of a parade and a program at the Palestine Civic Center.


The theme for this year’s event is “The Unity of Color: There is but one race and that is The Human Race.”

Below is a schedule of events for the parade and program.


Start Time: 10 a.m.

Route: From the Anderson County Courthouse on Crawford Street, down Avenue A, over to Oak Street to end at the Farmers Market.

3 Entry Categories: Floats, Automobiles & Bands

Prizes: 1st (float entries only)--$200 & Trophy; 2nd (all entries), $100 & Trophy; 3rd (all entries)  $75 & Trophy


Start Time: 11 a.m.

Location: Palestine Civic Center (1819 W. Spring St.)

Program Features:

  • Proclamation from the City of Palestine
  • Keynote Address presented by Karla J. Aghedo, Senior Associate with Hogan Lovells (Houston) and former Anderson County Assistant DA
  • Hamburger/hot dog lunch (free to attendees) hosted by Palestine's Waste Management Dept.
  • Musical selections from the Palestine HS Choir
  • Blood pressure checks offered by Palestine HS's CNA students
  • Annual Community Balloon Launch in honor of Dr. King's birthday
  • Music, fellowship & prayer
