Rusk Hollow Fest activities begin tonight

RUSK, October 17, 2013—The Rusk Hollow Fest begins tonight, and will run through October 19. The event will be held at the Rusk Civic Center (Old Armory), located at 555 Euclid.

Festival events include:

Sonic’s Roaming Zombie Night – Thursday, Oct. 17, at Sonic Drive-In, 1505 N. Dickinson/Hwy 69. Tips will benefit Senior Finale

Sam’s Carnival – Located at the Rusk Civic Center. Thursday, Oct. 17 Kids pay $1.00 per ride. Adults pay $2.00 per ride. The Carnival will also be open Friday, Oct. 18, from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 19, from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Wristbands will be available at these times.

Rusk Civic Center Food Court – Open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Thursday, Oct. 17 – Saturday, Oct. 19.

Special Saturday events include:

Opening Ceremony

Exhibitors & Craft Vendors – Saturday only, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Entertainment (throughout the day) – T’s Tumblers, Cloggers, Ron Shepard, and more

The ‘Running from Zombies’ Cross Country Run will be held at the Rusk Civic Center. Check in will begin at 3:00 p.m. Each runner will be provided with a flag belt that will be attached around their waist.  Zombies fast and nimble along with those zombies that are slow and terrifying will be out to take red flags from the runners.  The runners will be taken to the unknown location after the close of registration at 4:00 p.m.  The runners will follow the marked trail trying to avoid all zombies while holding on to the flags attached to their belt.  The run will finish up at the Rusk Civic Center where awards will be presented and also just in time for the "FREE Hollow Dance" which has been planned for the community with Music Masters of East Texas.

Contests (throughout the day) –Brookshire Brothers Beginners Photo Contest; Cherokee County Quilt Guild’s Quilt Juried Show; Good Samaritan’s Jams and Jelly Contest; Keep Rusk Beautiful $100 Best Salsa Contest; Austin Young State Farm’s May the Best Bear Win a Deer Feeder Contest; TSRR Children’s Costume Contest; McDonald’s Mommy and Child Mummy Wrap Game; Subway/Churches Pumpkin Decorating Contest

There will also be a free Costume Dance on Saturday, from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. Prizes include:Best Group Costume – must have 3 or more in group ($250 ), Most Creative Duo ($150), and Scariest Costume ($100).
