TYLER, February 8, 2013-- The Tyler Junior College Apache Belles and Marching Auxiliaries Dance will co-host the 2nd Rose Capital Regional Competition all day Saturday, February 9, on the TJC campus.
Approximately 800 dancers, twirlers and color guard performers as well as their directors, instructors, family and friends from all over Texas (and a few from Louisiana) will descend upon the TJC campus, where they will compete in Wagstaff Gymnasium and Gentry Gym in the Ornelas Health & Physical Education Complex.
The complex is located at the corner of Apache Pass and Palmer Avenue on the TJC main campus.
The event is open to the public. The competition begins at 7:30 a.m., with the awards ceremony set for 10 p.m.
Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children under age 6 as well as seniors ages 65 and older. Children under age 3 are admitted for free. Attendees will receive wristbands, which will allow them to come and go throughout the day.
“MA Dance is proud to host this competition with the Apache Belles, an organization that reflects dance team integrity with its precision, creativity and community service,” said Mary Wendt, vice president of MA Dance. “Not only do the competitors and their families have a chance to see Tyler and the beautiful TJC campus and experience having the Apache Belles serve as our hosts, they also have the opportunity to compete in a wonderful venue.”
This is a unique contest in that it encompasses dancers as well as twirling, winter guard and color guard performers, she added.
Apache Belles Director Jasilyn Schaefer said, “Last year was the inaugural year for this competition, and it’s the success has greatly increased this year’s number of competitors, which means more visitors and an economic boost to our city.
“We’re always thrilled to play host on the TJC campus and to show our guests what TJC and Tyler have to offer.”
Schaefer added that funds raised from door admission will go toward Apache Belle Scholarships and travel expenses.
