Registration for 2018 City Council election starts Jan. 17

PALESTINE, JANUARY 8, 2018 -- The application period for the May 5, 2018, City Council elections begins on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at City Hall, 504 N. Queen St.

This year, voters in City Council Districts 1, 3 and 5 can participate in the City Council elections.

Those wishing to run for these positions on the council can pick up an application from the city secretary and turn it in before 5 p.m. on February 16.

Early voting for the May 5 election will begin on April 23 and last until May 1. Early voting will take place at City Hall. More information will be available closer to the time period.

Below is a list of qualifications for offices on the Palestine City Council.

Mayor Qualifications

  1. Must be a resident citizen of the City of Palestine;
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age;
  3. Must be a qualified voter of the State of Texas; and
  4. Must be a resident of the City of Palestine for a period of not less than 12 months immediately preceding the election.


Council Member Qualifications

  1. Must be a resident citizen of the City of Palestine;
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age;
  3. Must have been a resident of the City of Palestine and district for which they are running, for a period of six months immediately preceding the election;
  4. Must be a qualified voter of the State of Texas.
