PALESTINE, July 10, 2013--Many people believe that because a drug, medication, or herb is available over the counter, that it is safe to take. However, all medications, including the over-the-counter ones, can have side effects and adverse drug interactions. This is especially true in terms of diabetes. For example, many over-the-counter medications contain simple sugars and alcohol which can cause sudden increases in blood sugar, however, a rapid fall in blood sugar commonly follows.
For those who wish to learn more, Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living (PRCIL) will be hosting their diabetic support group on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Lisa Parker, Pharm D, with Hometown Pharmacy, will be speaking on “Diabetes and Over-the-Counter Drugs”.
PRCIL is located at 421 Avenue A, Palestine, Texas. For more information, contact PRCIL at 903-729-7505.
