PALESTINE, March 17, 2013--Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living (PRCIL) will be hosting the Diabetic Support Group on Thursday, March 21st, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Susan Barrows will be discussing the consequences of uncontrolled diabetes and sleep apnea which can be more severe than most people might guess.
Diabetics know how important it is to keep blood glucose levels in check but few recognize the importance of sleep apnea symptoms.
Research has proven that approximately 40 per cent of all men who have type 2 diabetes also have sleep apnea. People with diabetes and those with sleep apnea have several things in common. There is no cure for either condition, however, both can be controlled. One similarity is that many people with both conditions do not know they have it. For years, the U.S. government has predicted that one-third of all Americans with diabetes have not been diagnosed. Although these figures are high, it is even higher with sleep apnea. 93 percent of women and 82 percent of men with moderate to severe sleep apnea have not been diagnosed.
PRCIL is located at 421 Avenue A, Palestine, Texas. For more information, contact PRCIL at 903 729 7505.
