PALESTINE, May 5, 2013--Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness and the seventh leading cause of death among adults in the United States. People with diabetes are at increased risk for eye complications and most people with diabetes will get some form of retinopathy which is a disorder of the retina. Although huge strides have been made in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, the earlier problems are diagnosed, the more successful the treatments can be.
Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living (PRCIL) will host the monthly Diabetic Support Group on Thursday, May 16, at 2:00 p.m. Dr. H. Nguyen, D.O. of Walmart Vision Center, will be speaking on “Diabetes and Vision Complications”. Denise Shoemake, also of Walmart Vision Center, will be performing free vision screenings as well.
