PALESTINE, April 7, 2013-- A change of seasons offers the promise of warmer days, more colorful landscape and fresh perspective. Renew the gift of hope this spring for transfusion-dependent patients by giving blood. Blood donations make surgical procedures, cancer treatments and transplant operations possible for patients in our community. The necessity for blood will not take a spring break and Carter BloodCare must see 1,100 donors a day in order to maintain the community blood supply.
Palestine Resource Center is hosting a blood drive on Friday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Evangelistic Temple located on 3011 N. Loop 256, in the classroom. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Belinda Murphy at 903-574-4513.
This spring, Carter BloodCare is recognizing the giving spirit of blood donors. Every blood donor will receive points to redeem in the Carter BloodCare’s Great Partners online store. If you don’t plan to use your points, just donate them back to help even more people in need. For details, go to TheGreatBigGiveBack.org.
Potential blood donors can volunteer beginning at age 16 with a parent’s consent, and 17-year-olds can give independently. There is no upper age limit for giving. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present a photo ID each time they donate. It’s also a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before giving blood. For more information about donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call Carter BloodCare at 1-800-366-2834.
