CHEROKEE CO., May 7, 2013—On May 6, at approximately 10:08 a.m., the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call in reference to a subject who was injured inside a silo-type structure, located at the Longview Asphalt Plant (Jacksonville Division), off of CR 3302, outside of Jacksonville.
Upon receiving the call, emergency personnel with the Jacksonville Fire Department were dispatched to the scene and upon their arrival it was determined the subject was deceased.
Deputies and investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the scene along with Justice of the Peace Pct 3, Philip Grimes.
At approximately 10:45 a.m., the subject was pronounced dead by J.P. Grimes, and a next of kin was notified by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department officials.
The subject, identified as James Anthony Lucus, age 42, was transported from the scene by Autry Funeral Home to Tyler Forensics Lab where the autopsy will be performed.
Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have been contacted as well and have also launched an investigation into the incident. The incident remains under investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department.
