Police investigate criminal trespass, mischief at Palestine Civic Center

PALESTINE, May 16, 2014-- On May 15, 2014, at approximately 7:48 a.m., Palestine Police Officers responded to 1819 W. Spring, the Palestine Civic Center, in reference to Criminal Trespassing and Criminal Mischief, which had already occurred.

Upon arrival, officers learned that during the overnight hours, an unknown offender or offenders entered the building by means of forcing entry through a door on the Northeast side of the building.

Upon entry the offender(s) then proceeded to commit criminal mischief to the facility by knocking down over 50 ceiling tiles, damaging light sconces on the wall, and damaging the breaker boxes in one of the maintenance closets. The damage appeared to be limited to the great room facility near the kitchen area.

At this time, the investigation is in the initial stages and the damages are still being tallied, however it has been estimated that at least $1,500 worth of damage has been done to the property.

The Palestine Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying and prosecuting the offender(s) responsible for this criminal act.
