PALESTINE, April 9, 2013--The Palestine Police Department is continuing to work on a Hit and Run type accident that took place in the 100 block of West Palestine Avenue.
On April 8, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of West Palestine Avenue, in reference to a possible intoxicated person. Officers arrived on the scene and located a male subject lying in the roadway. Officers were able to determine the man was severely injured. The injuries and the fact that the man was in the street suggested the man may have been hit by a vehicle. However, there was no vehicle in the area.
During the initial stages of the investigation, police received an anonymous call, and with help from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, a person of interest and vehicle were located. This person of interest has been interviewed by police concerning this matter.
The victim, who was not identified at the time of the initial incident, was transported to a Tyler hospital for treatment. The victim was listed in serious but stable condition at the time of his transport.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Police feel that alcohol may have been a factor in this incident. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
