Police and Fire Departments host Safety City fundraiser

LONGVIEW, April 11, 2013--The Longview Police and Fire Departments are among several groups hosting a community event fundraiser for Safety City this Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The fun event will take place at Mobberly Baptist Church, 625 E. Loop 281, and will include food, entertainment, face painting, child ID, bounce houses, police dogs, fire trucks, ambulances, car washes, as well as EMS and law enforcement helicopters. The event is free, but tickets will be sold for individual activities. All proceeds benefit Safety City, which is independently operated.

Safety City is an innovative way to teach school children the rules of bicycle, auto, and pedestrian safety. Opened in 1991, Safety City is a child-size City of Longview with 16 small buildings, child-size roadways, working traffic signals, and crossing signal, and an overpass. The Longview Police and Fire Departments work with Safety City to provide crime prevention and fire prevention education to students. Currently, fundraising efforts are underway to expand Safety City to include an indoor classroom with a fire safety theatre.

In addition to the Longview Police and Fire Departments, the community event is hosted by the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office, Mobberly Baptist Church, and Travis Mortgage.

For more information about the event, contact the Longview Fire Department Fire Prevention Office at 903-237-1210.
