Palestine PD conducts public survey

PALESTINE, May 17, 2013--The Palestine Police Department is conducting research into the feasibility of introducing a new communication program called Citizen Observer Tip411, which would allow for outgoing alerts and information to citizens by SMS text, and/or email, plus two way communication of anonymous tip information (via cell phone, Apple & Android App, or web application on our PD website) to supplement criminal investigations. The package would also include a display of crime mapping information which would also allow interactive anonymous tip information to be processed through the police department. The service would be free for citizens to sign up but would require a paid contract by the Police Department to implement the program.

“We are asking for help from the citizens of Palestine, in that we would like to have them complete an online survey in order to document various communication types used by the public as well as their preference on receiving and giving information to the Police Department”, said Lt. Jeff Powell, Palestine Police Dept. “Once we are able to document sufficient public interest, we intend to present our findings to City Manager Mike Ohrt, as well as members of the City Council.”

“We have already received some favorable responses regarding this technology and this product has been well received by other law enforcement agencies using it in Texas, including; Austin, El Paso, Round Rock, Farmer’s Branch and Coppell.”
