PALESTINE, April 29, 2013-- In times of crisis, Carter BloodCare relies on the blood supply already on its shelves to meet immediate patient needs. That’s why ongoing blood donations to Carter BloodCare are needed all year long. The blood center looks to the greater community for hosting blood drives and creating opportunities for volunteer blood donors to give this lifesaving gift. This helps keep the blood supply ready, whether the need for blood products is large-scale in response to a community tragedy, or to care for ongoing medical and surgical transfusion support.
Palestine Masonic Lodge is hosting a blood drive on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Wal-Mart at 2223 S. Loop 256, in the parking lot. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Chip Wolf at 903-723-9061 or 903-922-0455.
Potential blood donors can volunteer beginning at age 16 with a parent’s consent, and 17-year-olds can give independently. There is no upper age limit for giving. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and present a photo ID each time they donate. It’s also a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before giving blood. For more information about donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call Carter BloodCare at 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
