Palestine man arrested for Aggravated Sexual Assault of Disabled

PALESTINE, April 10, 2013—A Palestine man has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of Elderly/Disabled.

According to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor, a Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling on April 5, and noticed a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 2700 block of FM 322. The residence was known to be vacant. When the Deputy got out to investigate, Wavon Lashelter Owens, age 33, stepped out of the car. According to Sheriff Taylor, Owens’ pants were pulled down and he appeared to be intoxicated. The Deputy found that a 15 year-old disabled girl was also in the vehicle.

Investigation into the matter lead to a warrant being issued, and Owens was arrested on April 6.

Owens is facing charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault of Elderly/Disabled, which is a first degree sentence. If he is found guilty, he could face a sentence of up to life in prison.
