PALESTINE, October 22, 2013--The Palestine High School band will have the opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida, in May, as a result of the school’s desire to increase the band’s exposure to the national level.
“Years back, the band used to go on a lot of big trips, and the biggest one – way back when – they went over to Austria, over to Europe. We started talking, that’s something people are still talking about in this town to this day, and that’s a good thing for the town and for the band, so we wanted to start getting into that again,” said PHS Band Director Andrew Chybowski. “So this is our first, kindof, bigger trip, and we’re going to plan more down the road. I think it will be a good tradition.”
The trip will be open to all 74 band members, plus directors and parent chaperones.
As part of the experience, students will have the opportunity to visit the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, and Universal Studios, as well as perform and record the soundtrack for a cartoon.
According to Chybowski, the trip will take place May 25-29. Two charter busses will carry the group to Florida. Fundraising has already begun, and the band has more fundraisers in store. Those wishing to donate or assist with the trip preparations may call Palestine High School at 903-731-8005, or email Chybowski at AChybowski@palestineschools.org.
