Nacogdoches Co. traffic violation stop results in pursuit, accident

NACOGDOCHES CO., August 14, 2014— On Wednesday, at approximately 1:58 p.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2004 Nissan truck on FM 225, in Nacogdoches County for a traffic violation. The trooper subsequently began conducting field sobriety test on the driver, who failed to cooperate.

While the trooper attempted to detain him, the driver fled from the scene in his vehicle, committing a felony offense of evading law enforcement in a motor vehicle. The trooper discharged his firearm in an attempt to disable the vehicle and then returned to his patrol unit and attempting to follow the suspect.

Although he lost sight of suspect’s vehicle, shortly thereafter, the vehicle crashed into a tree and was found by a Nacogdoches County Deputy Constable on CR 874. The driver and the passenger were removed from the vehicle, which had caught fire, and were transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

This incident remains under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
