TYLER, September 6, 2013-- The Moore MST Magnet School cheer squad earned outstanding awards during the Universal Cheer Association (UCA) cheerleading camp held earlier this summer at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas.
Competing against 11 other teams in the freshmen and below division, the squad brought home first place in each of these four categories: Cheer, Pom, Extreme Routine and Overall Game Time. Other recognitions of the week included being named a ‘Superior’ team, earning the coveted Spirit Banana and winning the camp’s Traditions Award, an award given to the team that exhibits “inspiring leadership on and off the field.”
“The Moore cheerleaders proved they could be leaders on and off the field. I am incredibly proud of these young ladies,” said Tamara Bowers, squad sponsor.
Squad members Rhea Dhakal, Jillian Dunbar, Kesli Hill, Kourtney Hitchcock, and Shelby Spurgin were named to the UCA’s elite All-American team. Hitchcock was also named Jump Queen.
“Our Mustang cheerleaders have set the bar high for another great academic school year,” said Claude Lane, principal at Moore. “These young ladies and their sponsors, bring energy to the campus environment by spreading school spirit and the desire for everyone to do their best in all areas of school. We are proud of their hard work!”
