Mission Tejas announces October programs

CROCKETT, September 29, 2013--Mission Tejas State Park has released the October program schedule. Mission Tejas programs are always free. However, there is a $2.00 park entry fee required of all those ages 13 and over.

The October program schedule is as follows:

Oct. 5, 2013:  A Lasting Legacy:  The Civilian Conservation Corps-Learn about the men that built the foundation of Texas State Parks.  80 years ago, President Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corps. which put young men to work across the nation. This presentation will discuss the daily lives of an enrollee and the lasting legacy the CCC created at Mission Tejas, in our state and across our nation.  Begins at 10:00 a.m., at the pavilion.

Oct. 19, 2013:  Historic Sites Tour:  This ranger led park tour will take us through 300 years of Texas history – We will begin at 10:00 a.m., at the Rice Family Log Home, move on to the Mission Replica and finish up on historic El Camino Real – ending by 12 noon.  Visitors are welcome to attend all or only 1 or 2 sections of the tour, each section should take about 30-45 minutes. 

Oct. 26, 2013:  The Path of Wealth & Adventure: El Camino Real de los Tejas:  Walk in the footsteps of the first Texans – for centuries people have traveled El Camino Real de los Tejas in search of wealth, adventure and opportunity.  During this guided hike we will stand in the footsteps of these travelers and discuss the impact and influences of this road on our shared cultural heritage.  Meet at 10:00 a.m., at The Mission.
