MINEOLA, NOVEMBER 1, 2017 -- The Mineola High School Marching Band will advance to the Texas State UIL 3A Competition on Tuesday, November 7th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The band was awarded 1st place in the Area competition Saturday, October 28 and qualified to join 19 other bands at the state contest. The MHS “Sound of the Swarm” earned a bronze medal in their first state marching band contest in 2015 under the direction of Band Director, Chris Brannan.
The community is invited to join in the send off which will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 6th at the High School (900 W. Patten St.) with the escorted police and fire department service. The procession will head on the Loop past the Middle School and Primary School turning on Pacific (Hwy 69) towards Pizza Hut, down Hwy 69 to the Highway 80, then west towards Grand Saline traveling to Highway 19 towards Canton.
The State Contest will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Mineola High School is one of 20 districts in the 3A classification and will perform at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7th in the Preliminary contest. The top 10 bands will be announced at 5:30 p.m. with performance in Finals beginning at 7:15 p.m. The award ceremony will begin at 10:00 p.m. Tickets for the state contest event are $19 for a single event for adults or $30 for full day from the Alamodome Box Office or through Ticketmaster. Student in grades 7 to 12 are $14 or $24 and children in 6 th grade and under are free.
Mineola ISD is also providing a live streaming of the performance November 7th at 3:00 p.m. in the Middle School Band hall (1050 West Loop 564) and at the Elementary Gym (900 W. Patten). The community is invited to sign in at the office to attend
