Meetings to discuss Military community initiative

PALESTINE, March 18, 2013— Lone Star Military Resource Group would like to invite the public to come together for discussion of an initiative to support the Veterans, military members, and families in our community. The intention is to focus on the efforts of local organization and service providers with a common goal: to strengthen the local military community. This is a grassroots effort about bringing everyone together. It is also an opportunity to increase resources and services available to our National Guard, Reserve, and Veteran families in our community.

Sean Hanna and Stephen Keihl from Military Veteran Peer network will be joining the effort. They have embarked on a journey from Laredo across Texas on their Harleys to hear from communities and veterans across the state. This is part of Joining Community Forces Texas initiative.

Some of the challenges facing veterans and military populations in rural areas are lack of formal or traditional support found in and around installations, VA Hospitals, and major metropolitan areas. With the drawdown/ reduction of military forces, there will be a greater number of military members and families returning to the community. The goal is for them to find an environment in which they can thrive.

Input and support is needed from everyone - employers, educators, health and mental health providers, people in the housing and transportation areas, legal and financial experts, Veteran Service Organizations, and City/County government leaders-  to work collaboratively to support local veterans, military members, and families.

Community leaders are invited to discuss the initiative. Lone Star Military Resource Group is here to help in any way needed.
