Man, wife hospitalized after Loop 256 accident

PALESTINE, September 16, 2013--Palestine Police are investigating an accident involving a semi-truck and an SUV. The accident took place on Loop 256, near State Highway 155 north.

At the time of the initial investigation it appears that the SUV was traveling westbound to enter onto the loop. The SUV attempted to make a U-turn after entering onto Loop 256. The semi truck was also traveling westbound on the loop. The SUV made a U-turn in an attempt to travel east on the loop. The SUV turned directly into the path of the semi.

The SUV was pushed across the loop and into oncoming traffic before coming to a stop in the eastbound lanes of traffic. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The driver of the SUV was identified as 80 year Verne Walker of Palestine. Also in the SUV was Mr. Walker’s 75 year old-wife. Both were transported to the local hospital for treatment. The Walkers were reported to be in stable condition.

The driver of the semi was identified as 54 year-old Scott Hodges of Gilmer, Texas.  Mr. Hodges was not injured during the accident. Mr. Hodges was not cited for any violation.

The accident is still under investigation at this time. Officer Justin Carlson is the investigating officer for the Palestine PD.
