CHEROKEE CO., July 26, 2013--Fuel thefts that occurred in Cherokee County earlier in the month turned into a joint investigation involving Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Alto Police Department and several Agencies in Nacogdoches County.
Multiple charges have been filed against Zacorian White of Corrigan, who was arrested by Nacogdoches Police Department late last week during a traffic stop. After White was arrested, Investigators questioned him about fuel thefts in their area that he was suspected of having committed.
During questioning, White admitted to having committed the fuel thefts they were questioning him about, as well as others that he had been a part of that Nacogdoches County Investigators were not aware of.
His confession to Nacogdoches County Investigators prompted a call to Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and Alto PD.
Lt. Battley, from Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, went to Nacogdoches County Jail on Saturday, July 20, to interview White. During that interview, White provided a detailed statement as to his involvement in the theft of diesel fuel from the Cherokee County Precinct 2 County Barn and the Alto ISD Bus Barn during the night of July 9/early morning of July 10. Both are located on FM-851 South inside the City Limits of Alto.
Lt. Battley obtained a State Jail Felony arrest warrant through Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Judge Vera Foreman for the theft of approximately 600 gallons of road diesel from the Cherokee County barn. Nacogdoches County was notified of the outstanding warrant, and a hold has been placed on White who will be transported to Cherokee County Jail should he make bond on the charges out of Nacogdoches County.
Bond amount on the Cherokee County charge will be set when he is arraigned in Cherokee County.
The theft of the fuel from the bus barn is being investigated by Alto Police Department, and charges may be filed by The State of Texas Comptroller’s Office.
