Upon contacting the driver of the vehicle, the officer could smell an odor of alcohol coming from within the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Juan Angel Garcia, age 41, from Lufkin, TX. Garcia admitted to consuming alcohol and an open container was also located in his vehicle. Garcia was administered the field sobriety test and performed poorly.
Garcia was subsequently taken into custody for DWI/Child due to having three passengers under the age of 15 in the vehicle with him. Two of the children were 10 year-old males and the third child was a 9 year-old male. The children were released to family members at the scene.
Garcia was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Lufkin, where a sample of his blood was obtained for analysis. Garcia was then transported to the Angelina County Jail and released into their custody.
