LONGVIEW, May 26, 2013-- Longview’s annual 4th of July Fireworks and Freedom Celebration is expanding this year to include a concert and festival with activities for the whole family throughout the day. The event is scheduled for Thursday, July 4, 2013, at the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Complex.
Activities throughout the day include amusement rides, a hot dog eating contest, food, beverages, entertainment, and The Rock the Ages Concert. Festival admission and the fireworks show are free to the public; however, tickets are required for the concert and some individual activities. Activities will begin at 2:00 p.m., and the fireworks show will begin at dark.
According to Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Complex Manager Dixie Golden, “The 4th of July Fireworks are a great tradition in Longview, and this year we really want to add a free festival atmosphere that includes activities throughout the day. We hope people will come out for the concert, food, and other activities, and then stay for the fireworks.”
The Fireworks and Freedom Celebration is sponsored by the City of Longview as well as several other community sponsors including Dr. Pepper, KYKX, La Invasora, and others. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
The Rock the Ages Concert features AC/DC tribute band Back in Black, Bruce Springsteen tribute band Thunder Road, and ZZ Top tribute band Trio Grande. The concert begins at 3:30 p.m., and concludes approximately 8:30 p.m. Concert tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door, plus a nominal ticket service fee.
Community groups, vendors and sponsors are encouraged to be a part of the event. For more information, please contact the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Complex at 903-237-1230 or visit MaudeCobb.LongviewTexas.gov.
