Local youth invited to Teen Read Week at Palestine Public Library

PALESTINE, OCTOBER 9, 2017 – All area youth aged 12-18 are invited to take part in a weeklong celebration of Teen Read Week at the Palestine Public Library from October 10-14.

Starting Oct 10, the fun begins at the library inside the Palestine Mall. Four fun events are planned for Teen Read Week, starting with Scary Foods. During the event, participants will learn how to make Halloween foods, like fingers, witches brooms and mummies.

On Wednesday, October 11, participants will be able to make “Headphone Buddies.” Headphone buddies are animals made of felt that wrap around earbuds for safe keeping. Each participant will receive a free pair of earbuds to take home.

Misti Gonzales, a financial aid advisor with Trinity Valley Community College, will present ways that students and parents can pay for college on Thursday, October 12. College Planning 101 will show the options avaialble for students and parents, like grants, scholarships and student loans. Also available will be information on how to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

Teen Read Week culminates on Saturday, October 14 with a Harry Potter Lock In at the library. Participants will be transported to Hogwarts as a variety of Harry Potter-themed activities are planned.

Those wanting to come to the Harry Potter Lock In should register with the library by calling the Youth Services Department at 903-731-4121.

Teen Read Week is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. “We are very thankful for their support!” King said.
