Local agencies to test Emergency Preparedness Plans

TYLER, November 1, 2013— City of Tyler Emergency Management officials will partner with local hospitals on November 5, 2013, to test and evaluate agency preparedness and interagency communication.

Representatives with the Tyler Fire Department and the Tyler Police Department will team up with various organizations in the local medical community to exercise various aspects of each agency’s emergency plan.  The exercise will begin at approximately 9 a.m., and will conclude at 11 a.m.  In the event of actual severe weather conditions, the drill will be postponed and rescheduled to a later date.

Agencies participating in this mock exercise will include East Texas Medical Center, Trinity Mother Frances Hospital, UT Health Northeast, City of Tyler Emergency Management, Northeast Texas Public Health District, Piney Woods Regional Advisory Council – Area G, and Trinity Mother Frances Rehabilitation Hospital/HealthSouth.

While each agency will have specific goals that will be addressed within their respective emergency plans, the overall exercise will help local officials evaluate how each agency interacts and communicates should an event take place within the City.  The specific drill will include a mock severe weather-related event that potentially could impact the resources and operations of all agencies involved.  The City of Tyler will open the Emergency Operations Center to evaluate communications among the various organizations.
