TYLER, April 6, 2013-- The City of Tyler’s Liberty Hall will present music artist Susan Cowsill with opening act, Lauren Alexander in concert at 8 p.m., on Saturday, April 13.
Indie and Roots rockers know Cowsill from her years in the Continental Drifters. Children of the 1960s know her from her years in The Cowsills (“The Rain, The Park & Other Things,” “Hair,” “Indian Lake”).
With her second solo album “Lighthouse,” Cowsill reflects the loss of her two brothers and her experiences with Hurricane Katrina in her adopted hometown of New Orleans. These hard-won lessons from these experiences remain obvious while maintaining a sense of optimism and spirituality that's always been at the heart of her work. That indomitable spirit is reflected in the grit of emotionally vivid originals such as "ONOLA," "Sweet Bitter End," "The Way That It Goes" and "Avenue of the Indians."
Cowsill first entered the pop-culture spotlight at the age of eight, as the youngest member of the 1960s musical family The Cowsill’s, the inspiration for the popular show “The Partridge Family.” In adulthood, as a member of the alt-pop super group the Continental Drifters, she reemerged as a vocalist and songwriter of remarkable depth and insight. In 2005, she made an inspiring solo debut with “Just Believe It.”
Opening for Cowsill is local favorite and rising star, Lauren Alexander. Alexander is a singer, songwriter, and musician from East Texas. With two albums under her belt, including "Perfume and Gasoline," which boasted three Texas Music Chart radio hits, she is in the early stages of recording her third album. Alexander, who is a 12-year veteran of the music industry, describes her music as a blend of folk rock and blues with a strong country vibe.
Tickets are $18 online and $25 at the door, cash only. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show is at 8 p.m. For more information about Liberty Hall or for rental information go to www.libertytyler.com, join us on Facebook, or call Manager Anne Payne at 903-595-7274.
