LONGVIEW, March 16, 2013— LeTourneau University will present a professional stage production of John Steinbeck’s Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Of Mice and Men” at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 6, in the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center on the university’s main campus in Longview, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave.
“Of Mice and Men” is one of the most widely read stories in America. Written as both a novella and a script for a play, “Of Mice and Men” tells the tragic story of two California migrant ranch workers during the Great Depression. George and Lennie have delusions of making enough money to buy their own place. Lennie, a man-child, is a little boy in the body of a man. George is ever cautious of his gentle giant friend, dangerously powerful, yet in need of constant reassurance.
Since this stage production is true to the writing of the author, the language used in the story may be offensive to some people, therefore anyone with concerns should review the book prior to purchasing tickets.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.BelcherCenter.com or call the Belcher Center Box Office Monday through Friday, from 10 to 5 p.m., at 903- 233-3080.
The production is presented by The Acting Company, which was founded in 1972 by legendary producer/director/actor John Houseman and current producing director Margot Harley, with members of the first graduating class of Juilliard’s Drama Division. The Acting Company has performed 136 productions for over 3 million people in 48 states and 10 foreign countries. Alumni members include Kevin Kline, Rainn Wilson, Patti LuPone, and several others currently working on Broadway.
The entire 2012-2013 Belcher Center season is underwritten by Martin Midstream Partners. Marquee sponsors include Transet and Network Communications. This show is sponsored by Marge and Tom Dome, Charley and Sherry Peck, and Pelaia Law Center.
