LONGVIEW, May 15, 2013-- LeTourneau University’s Sting” Precision Flight Team placed 13th overall in the nation at the 2013 National Intercollegiate Flight Association SAFECON flight competition hosted by Ohio State, in Columbus, Ohio. Last year, the team placed 17th.
The competition attracted 378 competitors on 30 teams from universities all over the country. LETU placed 10th in Flight Events and 10th in Ground Events.
The team of pilot Ethan Pearce and drop master Bryan Stankovich were LETU’s highest placing competitors, placing 3rd nationally for the Message Drop Competition. The team of pilot Gregg Williams and drop master Justin Sutton placed 10th.
Flight students Gregg Williams (pilot) and Justin Sutton (co-pilot) placed 5th in the Crew Resource Management event. Daniel Tou won 7th place in Ground Trainer IFR simulator. Patrick Harney placed 20th in Short Field Landings.
“I’m very happy with the results of our team this year,” said Brad Wooden, the NIFA team sponsor. “We have not placed in the top 10 in both flight and ground events since 2008.”

Coaches were Brad Wooden, Chad Mertz, and Andrew Robinson.
