Large marijuana grow located in NW Smith Co.; Hundreds of plants seized

SMITH CO., August 11, 2014—A large Smith County marijuana operation has been discovered, and approximately 700 mature marijuana plants seized, according to Department of Public Safety Trooper Jean Dark.

According to Trooper Dark, a tip passed on to law enforcement lead to the conducting of air surveillance. The large grow was located on FM 216, and CR 247, off of US Hwy 69, in northwest Smith County.

Although no arrests have been made at this time, the investigation is ongoing.

The joint operation involved Department of Public Safety, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Tyler PD, Smith County District Attorney’s Office, and Texas Parks and Wildlife.
