Lane J. Brunner named Founding Dean of UT Tyler College of Pharmacy

TYLER, August 16, 2013— Dr. Lane J. Brunner has been named founding dean of the new College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Alisa White, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, announced.

Brunner joins UT Tyler from the California Northstate University College of Pharmacy where he served as professor and Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences chair. This will be Brunner’s second experience as founding dean, having successfully served in that role at the Regis University School of Pharmacy in Denver.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Brunner to the UT Tyler community,” White said. “With his exceptional experience as a founding dean, professional pharmacist and accomplished researcher, we know he will do great things for our new college.”

Earlier this year, the Texas Legislature passed legislation authorizing UT System to establish a college of pharmacy at UT Tyler. Gov. Rick Perry signed the legislation in June, and the UT System Board of Regents is expected to officially establish the school later this month.

“It is an honor to be invited to join a university with the strong reputation of UT Tyler, and I am excited about getting to work on this new program that is so vital to the East Texas region. My wife, Molly, and I look forward to living in Tyler,” Brunner said.

Prior to serving as the founding dean for the Regis University Pharmacy School, he served the UT Austin College of Pharmacy as an associate professor. In that role, he earned the Texas Excellence in Teaching Award and was named a Dean’s Fellow.

Brunner has kept strong ties to Texas throughout his career, regularly speaking to Texas pharmacy groups and maintaining his Texas license to practice pharmacy in the state since 1987. He holds a master of science in pharmaceutics from the University of Houston and a Ph.D. in pharmacy from the University of Georgia.
