Kirbyville High School Graduate receives DETCOG Employee Memorial Scholarships

LUFKIN, May 24, 2013-- A Kirbyville High School Graduate, Tiana Diggles, is a 2013 recipient of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Employee Memorial Scholarship.  The presentation was made Thursday at the annual DETCOG Membership Meeting in Lufkin.

Diggles was a member of the Art Club, Spanish Club, FECLA, FCA and a member of both the basketball and volleyball teams. Tiana is the Sunday School Secretary at her church and a member of the choir.  She also volunteered at the 21st Century Community Learning Center as a teacher for kids ages 3-6.

Tiana is the daughter of Walter Diggles, Jr. and Carolyn Diggles and granddaughter of DETCOG Executive Director, Walter Diggles, Sr. and Rosie Diggles.  She plans to attend Prairie View A&M to receive her degree in nursing.

The DETCOG Employee Memorial Scholarship was created by the employees of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments to honor the memory of Lois Davis, Betty Owens, Gail Hairgrove and Jean Lewis.  These individuals all passed away while working for the Council of Governments.  The funding for this five hundred dollar scholarship comes solely from DETCOG employee contributions.  The applications are all reviewed by DETCOG employees who make the choice as to which applicants receive the award.
