JACKSONVILLE, May 16, 2013--Jacksonville, Texas, home of the World’s Largest Bowl of Salsa, is gearing up for the 29th Annual Tomato Fest which will be Saturday, June 8. This tasty festival has a Salsa Contest, Tomato Eating Contest, $500 Got Talent Contest, various tournaments (fishing, soccer & tennis), over 150 arts/crafts, Car, Motorcycle, Tractor Show, Tomato Peeling Contest, Kiwanis Club Auction, Farmers Market and so much more.
Bring your camera and enter the Photo Contest with a total of $1000.00 awarded to the best photos of the festival. This annual event’s main ingredients are tomatoes. Everything from Farmer’s Market with Jacksonville tomatoes, to the children’s activities such as a Tomato Mashing Contest, Tomato Shoot (gun safety program organized by the local Boy Scouts) and Tomato Peeling Contest. One of the favorite events is the Tomato Eating Contest - celebrities showing their ability and earning bragging rights for 365 days as the champion eating the most tomatoes in just 3 minutes. New event is the Jacksonville Iron Works Truck Pull Challenge.
The Downtown portion will open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with over 20 events packed in a few city blocks. Beginning at 5 p.m., inside the Norman Activity Center, will be the annual Gospel Concert featuring The Chordsmith.
Lady Chazz & The Tramps will end the final event at Chili’s Annual Street Dance. This is the only Chili’s that holds an event like this. Chili’s Street Dance will kick off at 7 p.m., and be open until 10 p.m.
Visit Jacksonville the second weekend in June, celebrating Jacksonville’s tomato history, and mention ‘tomato fest,’ as local hotels are offering a weekend ‘tomato’ special (must call hotel directly). Come join a full day packed of tomato fun, shop and tour Jacksonville, and visit the 250 concrete tomatoes, weighing 665 pound each, and cleverly decorated showing tomato pride.
This fruity event is all free; free parking, admission, entertainment, Got Talent Contest, Photo Contest, and Chili’s Street Dance. Come celebrate Jacksonville’s tomato history.
