PALESTINE, September 25, 2013—Jacksonville College held a groundbreaking recently for a project to construct three new residence halls on the campus.
“Our enrollment has been up the last two years,” said President Mike Smith. “Up to last year, we only had two dorms for resident students, and we’ve maxed those out. We’ve been buying older homes around the school and renovating them and putting students in them, but we’re at a point now we needed some new dorms – new student housing – to accommodate the growth.”
The three new residence halls will be located on Kickapoo Street, and will be approximately 4,200 square feet. The facilities will be built with the help of volunteer labor groups in order to help save on cost.
