JACKSONVILLE, July 4, 2014— The Jacksonville Chamber Back to School Fair’s 9th annual event will be Tuesday, August 5, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the Norman Activity Center. Father Mark, Chair of the Jacksonville Chamber committee created this event to assist children and their families begin their school year in a positive way.
Exhibits to help families learn about health, sports, social and other activities for children in Jacksonville will be available as well as entertainment. Each attending Jacksonville student will receive Jacksonville ISD standardized clothing and a backpack with school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Donations for school supplies and clothing are still a need for the August event. Clothing sizes 4 – 14 are needed as well and can be dropped off at the Clothes Closet located 314 S. Main (across from the Fire Station). Some donations have been received, but the committee is short of the following supplies for 800 backpacks: 800 (plastic folder/w brads & pockets), 600 (#2 pencils), 500 (24 count crayons, elmer’s glue sticks, wide ruled notebook paper), 350 (Elmer’s white liquid glue, spiral notebooks), 300 (scissors, marbled composition books), 200 (highlighters, black/blue pens), 150 (manuscript books, pencil pouch, lined 3x5 index cards, 12 count map pencils, 3 ring binders), 100 (red ball point pens, dividers, wooden rulers, pencil top erasers) 75 (markers, pink pearl erasers, plastic school box) and 50 (white paper – no lines, washable markers).
Donations can be sent to the Back School Fair, c/o Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, 526 E. Commerce, Jacksonville, TX 75766. Please send items and or donations no later than Friday, August 1.
