TYLER, September 27, 2-13-- Students in the Robert E. Lee High School (REL) International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme will host a fundraising concert on Saturday, September 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the REL Fine Arts Center. The concert, titled “Spark of Talent,” will benefit CHISPA Global, a nonprofit organization that raises money to fund training programs for Latin American doctors. CHISPA, which means “spark” in Spanish, also provides medical supplies to villages in need.
A variety of artistic talent from REL students and the community will be showcased. The IB students initiated and organized the concert to fulfill the Programme’s Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) requirement. In order to fulfill this requirement, students must research and develop a service project on a global level and plan the project from beginning to completion.
“Students in the IB Diploma Programme work really hard for two solid years to complete all the requirements, and we want the community to be aware of the amazing things they are doing,” District IB Facilitator Jan Ace said.
The internationally recognized IB Programme is for highly motivated students who plan to attend a four-year university. An IB Diploma can earn the student up to 24 college credit hours.
Tickets for the Spark of Talent concert are five dollars each and can be purchased at the door. Refreshments will be served, CHISPA t-shirts and tank tops will be available for purchase and all proceeds will benefit CHISPA Global.
